Upper Limits of Normal (20th Anniversary Reissue)

12 tracks / 52 min / 2020/2002.

A full-length album of slow beats and instrumental jams layering samples of Tara on piano, Hammond organ, synths, and electric guitar, with drum machine loops run through a vintage tube amp and effects.

Fresh off a few years of performing jazz piano in NYC bars in the late ’90s, Analog Tara made Upper Limits of Normal, a full-length album of slow beats and instrumental jams layering samples of her performances on multiple instruments and drum machines. Everything was arranged with a Yamaha A3000 sampler and RM1X sequencer, and recorded and mixed through a Roland VS880 workstation. Move D’s Source Records released a version of “Defunkt” on a 2001 compilation and the self-released album had limited availability in the years after. This is a reissue for the music’s 20th anniversary.

Written, performed + produced by Analog Tara. Homemade in Brooklyn, NY, 2000-02.
