Wavecycles (2011)

Custom software, stereo audio, open-ended duration (30 min. recording)

Sound installation presented at the SlowFloat/Ear to the Earth performance/action event held alongside the Delaware River, Aug. 6, 2011.

Wavecycles is a generative composition written in SuperCollider, using white and pink noise to emulate the sounds and patterns of water waves. Experienced through headphones in its initial setting, it provided a quiet soundtrack to the surrounding river scene. It evokes the soothing aspects of flowing water and white-noise machines alike, and suggests how natural settings and technological mediations overlap and coexist.
